Quick updates

  1. My mother was here this week. It was wonderful to have her visit and we were sad to see her leave. While she came to Boston at least once a month, travel to Omaha is much more expensive and inconvenient so visits are coveted. At least Sophie got to see her frequently for the first 3 years of her life. 'sniff.
  2. We have water in our basement of our house built in 2005. Fortunately, at this point, and to the best of my knowledge, we do not have water in our basement in our house built in 1870. What a pain in the ass.
  3. We put our house in Boston back on the market for a month to see if we'd get any action. We had a lot of lookers, but no buyers. The market is so bad that the realtor suggested putting the house on for $75,000 less than she suggested this past August. Ouch!
  4. We have new tenants moving in today for 3 months. We will be back in Boston at the end of July for a few days to get the house ready for the next family, who will be there from August 1 through July 31, 2008. Wow!
  5. Last night we went to a wine tasting dinner at our Club. Although I grew up going to a club, I never imagined myself going to one now, and I love it.
  6. Tonight we're going to see Billy Joel with free company tickets. I guess that's one good thing about Neal's company.... free concert tickets! We also went to Clapton and Blue Man Group. Gotta love that.
  7. Next weekend is the big Birkshire Hathaway shareholder meeting and we scored some tickets. We're going to the Borshimes Jewelry Store party and the brunch in hopes of meeting the great Uncle Warren. I know... fat chance but I can dream.
  8. I still find Omaha very isolating and lonely. Every day I look out my windows at absolutely no cars or traffic. How I miss looking out my living room window at Main Street in Charlestown. I miss a vibrant city, and I literally tear up if I see shots of Boston and even New York on TV. Every day that I am here, I know that I am that one in a million who distinctly prefers city to suburbia. Take my mudroom, and just let me jump in a cab!
Could I get used to this?

A few weeks ago, well, actually like a month ago, I experienced the glory of golf course living. It made me think for a moment that maybe I could grow to like it here...... maybe....

It was Sunday morning and Neal and I had gone to the Eric Clapton concert the night before. The tickets were great and free since they were company seats. The next morning, Sunday, Neal said that I should play golf. It was about 7:30 so I called the pro shop and asked if I could not only play that morning, but be first off the tee and play alone. If I could do all these things, I wouldn't feel so guilty about leaving Neal home alone with the kids.

Sure enough they said yes and I finished 9 holes in an hour and 15 minutes. I shot a 47 and it was great! I wasn't held up by any slow play or annoying hackers. This is how the Greatest Game should be played! I could get used to this!
